Law enforcement officials condemn Dakota Access protest
According to Say Anything’s Rob Port and Poltico’s Elana Schor, local law enforcement officials are growing increasingly concerned with the violence they have seen at the protest sites, but more importantly, the lack of attention it is gaining with federal officials.
In a letter addressed to Department of Justice, Interior Department, and Army Corps of Engineers, Mercer County Sheriff Dean Danzeisen cautioned the three agencies “should share responsibility if anyone is hurt” from the protesting.
“Lest you think otherwise, these are not peaceful protesters,” Danzeisen wrote. “They are armed, hostile, and engaged in training exercises which can only be intended to promote violence, whether on Corps property or elsewhere.”
Standing Rock Fact Checker echoes the concerns of local law enforcement and wonders why federal officials continue to ignore or downplay serious issues.
